SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 652

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Reverend Alvertice Bowdre, Jr., for his many years of outstanding service to the Prairie View community; and

WHEREAS, A graduate of Southwestern Christian College, Alvertice Bowdre has served in the ministry since 1954 and is currently the minister of the Highway 6 Church of Christ in Navasota; he is also a dedicated community leader who has a long history of reaching out to help people in need; and

WHEREAS, He is a former juvenile probation officer and has been a member of the Prairie View Volunteer Fire Fighting Association since 1986; at the age of 78, he continues to be ready to provide comfort and aid to the citizens of Prairie View and to answer the call for assistance throughout the Waller-Harris Emergency Service District; and

WHEREAS, For his superior service, he earned the Distinguished Service Award from the Prairie View Volunteer Fire Fighting Association in 2007, and in 2008, the Prairie View Volunteer Fire Fighting Association building was named in his honor; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Alvertice Bowdre is a man of courage and resolve whose selflessness is an inspiration to others, and he deserves recognition for his exceptional leadership and generous spirit; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend the Reverend Alvertice Bowdre, Jr., on his invaluable contributions to the Prairie View community and his exemplary service on behalf of his fellow man and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of the Reverend Alvertice Bowdre, Jr.
