SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 656
         WHEREAS, The Independent Bankers Association of Texas was
  organized in July of 1974 with 252 members to promote the
  interests of communities through hometown leadership and
  investment; and
 
         WHEREAS, The organization grew in numbers and stature over
  the years while promoting the common interests of individual
  communities at the local, state, and national levels; the
  organization has taken strong civic and legislative stands in its
  continuing efforts to strengthen the Texas economy and foster
  community growth; and
 
         WHEREAS, Community banks have made improving the quality
  of life of local communities and citizens their top priority; all
  levels of bank personnel invest in civic endeavors ranging from
  little league to main street both financially and with hands-on
  leadership; and
 
         WHEREAS, The Independent Bankers Association of Texas has
  continually developed educational tools that emphasize financial
  literacy; the IBAT Education Foundation offers programs for
  Texans of all ages, working hand in hand with schools, senior
  centers, and local, state, and national organizations to make
  Texans financially responsible; and
 
         WHEREAS, The organization continues to develop programs
  and services for the betterment of community banks, such as its
  wholly owned IBAT Services, Leadership Division, IBAT Financial
  Services, and Texas Independent Bank, which was created as an
  alternative source of correspondent banking services for Texas
  community banks and has grown to be the largest in the nation; and
 
         WHEREAS, The organization has taken a leadership role in
  the promotion of the Texas Main Street Program, including the
  annual First Lady's Tour honoring designated communities that
  work to improve cities and towns in the Lone Star State; and
 
         WHEREAS, The governor of Texas honored the Independent
  Bankers Association of Texas for its work in the Main Street
  Program in 2006, presenting the prestigious Governor's Award for
  Historic Preservation to the board of directors in ceremonies at
  the governor's mansion; and
 
         WHEREAS, The Independent Bankers Association of Texas
  represents some 2,000 Texas-based banks and full-service
  branches located in 700 communities led by thousands of homegrown
  and community-loving employees, all working for the betterment
  of independent banks and the communities that make them special;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby honor the Independent Bankers Association of
  Texas on the occasion of its 35th anniversary and extend to its
  members sincere best wishes for continued success and prosperity
  in the future; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the Independent Bankers Association of Texas as an expression of
  high regard from the Texas Senate.
