SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 662

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize community and youth leader Lester Hughes, who has been coaching with Track Houston since 1999; and

WHEREAS, Lester Hughes has served as an age group head coach since 2001, and he is currently the head coach for intermediate boys; he mentors the boys and helps them develop their talent while instilling in them the values and the discipline they need to succeed in life; and

WHEREAS, He is a USA Track and Field level one certified coach and a member of the Gulf Coast Scholastic Track Coaching Association; an especially knowledgeable and passionate track and field coach, he stays up-to-date on the latest training and conditioning techniques by attending seminars and clinics and by talking to college and Olympics coaches; and

WHEREAS, He has used his knowledge to develop some outstanding Junior Olympics intermediate boys teams that consistently excel at the national level; his 2005 team won the intermediate division youth national outdoor championship; and

WHEREAS, Lester has dedicated many years giving back to his community by helping its young athletes and inspiring them to train, work hard, and succeed in life; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend Lester Hughes for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the young people of his community and extend to him best wishes for continued success; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Lester Hughes as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
