SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 711

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Samaritan Inn on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The Samaritan Inn was established in 1984 by community leaders determined to address the issue of homelessness in Collin County; dedicated to the goal of helping willing people regain their dignity and independence, this exemplary organization has played an important role in enabling thousands of people to overcome their setbacks and rejoin mainstream society; and

WHEREAS, The Samaritan Inn offers individuals and families a secure, clean place to live at no cost along with various programs to help them get back on their feet; residents receive individualized plans for their recovery which include support groups, health services, and life skills classes; and

WHEREAS, The Samaritan Inn offers ongoing support to those who have reestablished their own households to ensure their continuing self-sufficiency; newer programs like Greater Goodies and the Gateway Project offer opportunities for job skills training and transitional living and demonstrate the enduring ability of this outstanding program to make a difference in the lives of the homeless of Collin County; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend the staff and board of directors of the Samaritan Inn on their compassion and dedication to addressing the problem of homelessness in Collin County and extend to them best wishes for a memorable 25th anniversary celebration; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the Samaritan Inn as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
