SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 730
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the Hondo Municipal Airport, which has been selected to |
|
|
receive the 2009 Airport of the Year Award; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The airport has been selected by the Aviation |
|
|
Division of the Texas Department of Transportation and will |
|
|
receive the award at a banquet on May 12; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the last five years, the airport has been |
|
|
under development, and in the last year, two Texas Department of |
|
|
Transportation grants funded an airport terminal building and a |
|
|
fuel facility; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of city manager Robert |
|
|
Herrera, the City of Hondo has developed a 1,400-acre industrial |
|
|
park at the airport, including a rail spur to connect the airport |
|
|
to the Union Pacific Railroad; it is the only general aviation |
|
|
airport that has a rail line transfer business at the airport |
|
|
where the city has retained the option of purchasing the spur; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The city also encouraged Patrick and Michael |
|
|
Corrigan to locate their aircraft interior shop at the airport, |
|
|
creating a partnership that evolved into Corrigan Air Center; in |
|
|
the fall of 2008, the airport brought Air Evac Lifeteam to the |
|
|
field, which provides emergency medical services to the region; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The city has entered into a long-term lease with |
|
|
Wright Flyers to develop Hondo International Flight Training |
|
|
Academy; Wright Flyers is a certified pilot training school for |
|
|
recreational as well as commercial pilots; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Tim Fousse, the airport manager, and Robert |
|
|
Herrera have worked closely together to achieve all the airport |
|
|
upgrades, and the result is a full-service airport with |
|
|
improvements rarely found in cities the size of Hondo; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend all who participated in the |
|
|
development and improvement of the Hondo Municipal Airport and |
|
|
extend congratulations to them on the airport's selection as the |
|
|
2009 Airport of the Year; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the Hondo Municipal Airport. |
