SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 750
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Gina Rifino Ducloux
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Gina Rifino Ducloux, who died April 15,
  2009, at the age of 85; and
 
         WHEREAS, Gina Ducloux was born June 24, 1923, in New
  Jersey; she excelled as a student and exhibited outstanding
  musical ability at a young age, performing operatic voice
  recitals as a teenager; and
 
         WHEREAS, She earned a voice scholarship to the University
  of New Hampshire, where she met her husband, Walter Ducloux, a
  professor at the university and an NBC Symphony Orchestra
  assistant conductor; they were married for 53 years; and
 
         WHEREAS, The couple pursued their artistic calling in such
  diverse places as Prague, New York City, and Los Angeles before
  moving to Austin in 1968, where they developed the opera and
  symphony at The University of Texas; Mrs. Ducloux, along with her
  husband, and with the tremendous support of the community,
  founded the Austin Lyric Opera in 1986; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Ducloux was a dedicated and inspirational
  voice teacher and vocal coach, and her high school students
  routinely won top prizes in University Interscholastic League
  competitions; she was noted for her ability to teach foreign
  language musical diction and was in great demand at such events
  as the Mozart Festival in Salzburg, Austria, where she taught as
  recently as 2004; and
 
         WHEREAS, A woman of elegance, graciousness, and
  generosity, Mrs. Ducloux gave unselfishly to others, and her
  charm, wisdom, and enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest
  will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and
 
         WHEREAS, She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and her
  family and many friends will continue to live with the cherished
  memories of her life and her many achievements; now, therefore,
  be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Gina Rifino Ducloux: her daughter and son-in-law,
  Denise Brink and Howard; her sons and daughters-in-law, Claude
  and Susan Ducloux and Philip and Summer Ducloux; and her
  grandchildren, Simone, Christopher, Daniel, Dominique, and Zoe;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Gina Rifino Ducloux.
