SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 753

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Gertrude "Sugar" Goodman for her many years of civic leadership and service to the YWCA El Paso del Norte Region; and

WHEREAS, Gertrude Goodman has given generously of her time and energy throughout her life to many community, social, and cultural organizations in El Paso; and

WHEREAS, She has been involved with the YWCA since attending exercise classes at the Franklin Street building after she graduated from Mills College with a degree in social work; she served on the YWCA's board of directors in the 1950s and was on the nominating committee in the 1970s; and

WHEREAS, The YWCA promotes diversity and strives to create opportunities for women by providing high-quality programs and leadership development activities, and Gertrude Goodman has worked to support the organization in these efforts for many years; and

WHEREAS, A respected and admired leader, Gertrude Goodman has worked diligently for the betterment of the community and has had a positive impact on the YWCA El Paso del Norte Region; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend Gertrude "Sugar" Goodman for her exceptional achievements and her many contributions to the YWCA El Paso del Norte Region and the El Paso community; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
