SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 754
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Gene Powell, who was recently appointed by Governor
  Rick Perry to the Board of Regents for The University of Texas
  System; and
         WHEREAS, Raised in Weslaco, Mr. Powell earned a bachelor's
  degree in finance at The University of Texas at Austin while
  playing football under legendary coach Darrell K. Royal; he went
  on to receive a master's degree in finance at the university; and
         WHEREAS, A businessman and entrepreneur, Mr. Powell has
  played a vital role in managing and creating numerous successful
  ventures; he served as president of the Quincy Lee Company, which
  was one of San Antonio's largest commercial real estate
  development companies; he founded The Powell Companies real
  estate brokerage and Bitterblue, Incorporated, which has worked
  on some of San Antonio's premier developments, including Lincoln
  Heights and The Quarry; and
         WHEREAS, In 2004, Mr. Powell cofounded the medical
  software company AirStrip Technologies, which creates the tools
  used by hospitals nationwide to transmit critical patient data
  from the hospital to a physician's cell phone; and
         WHEREAS, Active in civic affairs, Gene Powell is a member
  of the Real Estate Council, the Greater San Antonio Builders
  Association, and the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; he
  took the oath of office for his position as regent on April 3,
  2009, and he is truly deserving of recognition for his many
  achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby commend Gene Powell for his outstanding
  contributions to his community and profession and extend
  congratulations to him on being named to the Board of Regents of
  The University of Texas System; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate.
