SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 770
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Hostelling International USA on the occasion of its
  75th anniversary and to celebrate 100 years of the hostelling
  movement; and
 
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1934 as American Youth Hostels,
  Hostelling International USA is a nonprofit organization
  dedicated to helping everyone, especially the young, gain a
  greater understanding of the world and its people through
  hostelling; and
 
         WHEREAS, Hostelling International USA operates or licenses
  70 hostels throughout the country, which hosted one million
  visits in the last year alone; it is part of a network of 4,000
  hostels in 75 countries worldwide; and
 
         WHEREAS, This outstanding organization offers a wide range
  of educational programs for travelers through its hostels and
  regional councils, focusing on responsible travel, cultural
  awareness, environmental stewardship, and global citizenship; and
 
         WHEREAS, To commemorate this auspicious occasion, the
  Southern Region and the Bluebonnet Council of Hostelling
  International USA are holding an anniversary celebration on May
  30, 2009, at the Montrose Public Library in Houston; it is truly
  fitting that the practice of hostelling be celebrated for its
  many contributions to cooperation and understanding throughout
  the world; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby commend Hostelling International USA on its
  exemplary efforts to advance understanding and cultural
  awareness through the custom of hostelling and extend best wishes
  for a memorable 75th anniversary celebration; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  this outstanding organization as an expression of esteem from the
  Texas Senate.
