SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 798
|
|
WHEREAS, The year 2009 marks the 100th anniversary of the |
|
establishment of the Texas Department of Licensing and |
|
Regulation; and |
|
WHEREAS, The agency was created in 1909 as the Bureau of |
|
Labor Statistics to collect information on Texas employees and to |
|
address industrial issues affecting employers, employees, and |
|
the general public; by 1956 the Bureau of Labor Statistics had |
|
six divisions, and in 1989 the agency began operating under its |
|
current name and many of its labor functions were transferred to |
|
the Texas Employment Commission; and |
|
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Executive Director |
|
William H. Kuntz, Jr., the Texas Department of Licensing and |
|
Regulation is today the state's umbrella occupational regulatory |
|
agency, governed by a seven-member commission that is appointed |
|
by the governor; guided by its core values of integrity, |
|
accountability, customer service, open and free communication, |
|
innovation, teamwork, and respect, the department currently |
|
oversees 26 occupations and industries, with more than 500,000 |
|
licenses, and its mission is to foster a fair and efficient |
|
regulatory environment and ensure public safety; and |
|
WHEREAS, For the past century, the Texas Department of |
|
Licensing and Regulation had demonstrated its commitment to |
|
becoming the model state agency, earning the public trust by |
|
setting the standard for customer service, innovation, |
|
cost-effectiveness, and efficiency, and its contributions to our |
|
state government indeed merit special recognition; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
Legislature, hereby commemorate the centennial of the Texas |
|
Department of Licensing and Regulation and extend to its current |
|
and former employees and commissioners and all those associated |
|
with the agency sincere appreciation for their service to the |
|
Lone Star State; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
the department as an expression of high regard from the Texas |
|
Senate. |
