SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 802
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the residents of the Greater Channel Area who are
  observing the National Day of Prayer on May 7, 2009; and
 
         WHEREAS, On the National Day of Prayer, members of all
  faiths are encouraged to come together to pray according to their
  own tradition and in their own way; and
 
         WHEREAS, Civic prayers and national days of prayer have had
  a long and enduring history in America, dating back to the First
  Continental Congress in 1775; the annual National Day of Prayer
  was established by Congress in 1952; and
 
         WHEREAS, The founders of our nation had a strong belief in
  God and in the power of prayer, and the National Day of Prayer is
  an opportunity for citizens to reflect on our history and pay
  homage to our moral and religious heritage; and
 
         WHEREAS, This year, for the 20th consecutive year,
  residents of the Greater Channel Area are gathering on the steps
  of Galena Park City Hall to celebrate the National Day of Prayer;
  now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby commend the residents of the Greater Channel
  Area for observing the National Day of Prayer and extend best
  wishes for a moving and inspirational event; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the occasion as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
