SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 808
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Gerald Spear Connell, Jr.
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Gerald Spear
  Connell, Jr., who died April 3, 2009, at the age of 77; and
         WHEREAS, Jerry Connell was born in San Antonio on February
  7, 1932, to Gerald S. Connell, Sr., and Gladys Whitley Connell;
  he became a talented magician, and in his early years, he took his
  magic show to cities and towns across Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Known as one of "San Antonio's Finest," Jerry
  served his community as a San Antonio police officer for 13 years
  and as a constable of Precinct 2 for 22 years; and
         WHEREAS, Jerry had a passion for all types of music; he
  played bass guitar in a country band, and over the years, he
  became friends with many country singers; he collected all types
  of music, from opera to country, and had a collection of close to
  400,000 recordings, which he wished to bequeath to the music
  department at Texas A&M University; and
         WHEREAS, He had a zest for adventure and an outgoing
  personality that endeared him to all who knew him; he was a
  devoted husband, father, and brother, and he leaves behind
  memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many
  friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Gerald Spear Connell, Jr.: his wife of 53 years, Joan
  Slavin Connell; his son, Gerald S. Connell III; his daughter and
  her husband, Gretchen and Tony Allen; his sisters, Gayle Olenick
  and Gloria Weiss; and his four grandchildren; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Gerald Spear Connell, Jr.
