SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 833

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Don Wendell, who is retiring after 28 years of outstanding service as director of the Plano Parks and Recreation Department; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Wendell joined the Plano Parks and Recreation Department after working in the parks and recreation departments in Harlingen and Mesquite; he holds a master's degree in parks and recreation administration from the University of Northern Colorado and a degree in history from Austin College; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Mr. Wendell has been noted for his superior skills and expertise; under his leadership, the department has developed four athletic facilities, six recreation centers, and more than 1,400 acres of park land; and

WHEREAS, Talented and resourceful, Mr. Wendell has handled his many responsibilities with exceptional efficiency and dedication; he has played an important role in the execution of the city's carefully laid plans for growth; and

WHEREAS, An exemplary public servant, Mr. Wendell is respected and admired by his colleagues, and his presence at the Plano Parks and Recreation Department will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend Don Wendell on his outstanding service to the City of Plano and extend to him best wishes for the retirement years ahead; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
