SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 836
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Penny Payte McLeaish
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of McAllen in mourning the loss of longtime educator
  Penny Payte McLeaish, who died April 23, 2009; and
         WHEREAS, A 1958 honors graduate of Pan American College,
  Penny McLeaish taught senior English, American history, and
  American government at Sharyland High School for 42 years; she
  coached many individual students and teams to University
  Interscholastic League championships in debate, current issues,
  informative and persuasive speaking and received the Denius-UIL
  Sponsor Excellence Award in 1996; and
         WHEREAS, She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic
  Church and was active in civic and philanthropic affairs; she was
  a past president of the Hidalgo County League of Women Voters and
  a Democratic presidential elector in 1992 and 1996, and she was
  the Sharyland Independent School District Teacher of the Year in
  1990 and the Hidalgo County Zonta Club Shining Star for Education
  in 2002; and
         WHEREAS, She was especially honored to have the Penny Payte
  McLeaish Learning Resource Center at Sharyland High School named
  for her upon her retirement in 1999; and
         WHEREAS, Penny was a devoted wife, mother, and
  grandmother, and she leaves behind memories that will be
  treasured forever by her family, her many friends, and all those
  whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Penny Payte McLeaish: her husband, Robert McLeaish;
  her daughters, Laurel McLeaish, Heather Butler, and Janet
  Robinson; her grandchildren, Jesse and Brittany Robinson; and
  the many members of her extended family; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Penny McLeaish.
