SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 839

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Gene Carey, who is retiring after 20 years of outstanding public service to the citizens of Lewisville; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Carey began his political career with a four-year stint on the Park Board before serving seven years as a member of the city council; he was then elected mayor, a post he has held for nine years, the longest mayoral tenure in the city's history; and

WHEREAS, Among the myriad issues he has handled as mayor, transportation has been and remains one of the most important; the city recently broke ground for its first light rail stop on Hebron Parkway, and it has instituted bus service, which is being utilized on a growing basis; and

WHEREAS, Talented and resourceful, Mr. Carey has had an impact on many other areas of civic life; under his leadership, the city has reduced taxes while maintaining its level of city services, and it has constructed a new City Hall; and

WHEREAS, An exemplary public servant, Mr. Carey is respected and admired by his colleagues and citizens alike, and his presence at Lewisville City Hall will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend Gene Carey on his many contributions to the City of Lewisville and extend to him best wishes for the retirement years ahead; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
