SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 849

WHEREAS, The Big Greene Tree, owned by Chris and Diann Stadler, has been designated a Fort Worth Heritage Tree by the Fort Worth Parks and Community Services Department; and

WHEREAS, The Heritage Tree Campaign works to foster an appreciation of trees and promote public awareness that heritage trees are a living and distinct resource of the Fort Worth community; and

WHEREAS, Named for the street on which it grows, the Big Greene Tree is a well-known area landmark; contributing to community ties, it is often used by the University Place Homeowners Association as a meeting spot for special occasions; the recent discovery that it has been a nesting site for screech owls lends additional significance to the lore and appreciation people have for this neighborhood icon; and

WHEREAS, Recognized for its distinction as a Fort Worth Heritage Tree at the 2009 Arbor Day ceremony, the Big Greene Tree has earned a special place in the hearts of many, and it is a pleasure to pay tribute to this community treasure; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby congratulate Chris and Diann Stadler on having the Big Greene Tree designated as a Fort Worth Heritage Tree and commend them for their caretaking efforts; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Stadler as an expression of high regard by the Texas Senate.
