SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 861
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Staten James Holmes for his many achievements in the
  sport of archery; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mr. Holmes is a member of the United States
  Archery Recurve team that recently defeated Italy by a score of
  233-227 to win a gold medal at the 2009 World Indoor Archery
  Championships in Rzeszów, Poland; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mr. Holmes began shooting competitively at the
  age of 13, and he became an important force in the archery program
  at Texas A&M University, leading the Aggies to the first of 11
  national championships in 1994, his freshman year; he graduated
  as a four-time All-American and had won two national
  championships; and
 
         WHEREAS, A full-time pharmacist for Walgreens, Mr. Holmes
  has continued to improve his skills through the years, and he is a
  serious contender to make the United States Olympic team that
  will compete in London in 2012; he is truly deserving of
  recognition for his talent, his hard work, and his contributions
  to the sport of archery; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby commend Staten James Holmes on his
  dedication to excellence and his many accomplishments in the
  sport of archery and extend to him best wishes for continued
  success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
