SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 866

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize San Gabriel Christian Church on the grand occasion of its 155th anniversary, which is being celebrated June 28, 2009; and

WHEREAS, San Gabriel Christian Church can trace its roots to a dedicated group of Campbellites who met in the homes of its members in the early 1850s; following the first recorded baptism in 1854, services were conducted by part-time and travelling pastors until William K. Hamblin assumed the duties of pastor; and

WHEREAS, Over the years, San Gabriel Christian Church has ministered faithfully to the temporal and spiritual needs of countless people; and

WHEREAS, Due to the guidance and wise stewardship of its pastors, the church has continued to grow and to play a vital role in the life of the community; and

WHEREAS, San Gabriel Christian Church has become an invaluable source of strength for church members during times of hardship and bereavement and a source of joy during times of abundance and celebration; and

WHEREAS, The commemoration of its 155th anniversary is an expression of the church's enduring commitment to its mission of providing enlightenment and hope to its congregation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and members of San Gabriel Christian Church on the joyous occasion of its 155th anniversary; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the church as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
