Norma Linda Trevino |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of the late Norma Linda Trevino, who died |
|
December 28, 1998, at the age of 48; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A dedicated teacher and a generous, compassionate |
|
wife and mother, Norma Linda Trevino was born January 22, 1950; |
|
she was a 1968 graduate of Edinburg High School, and she went on |
|
to earn a degree in education from Pan American College; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, On January 22, 1971, she married Cristobal |
|
Trevino, and the couple raised two children, John Michael and |
|
Debra Denise Trevino, who blessed them with six grandchildren, |
|
Michael, Jennifer, Mark, John, Norma, and Jose; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Following her college graduation, Mrs. Trevino |
|
began a long and fulfilling career with the Edinburg Consolidated |
|
Independent School District; during her 22 years with the |
|
district, she taught at various schools, including Sam Houston, |
|
Jefferson, and Travis Elementary Schools; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Resourceful and enthusiastic, she was a positive |
|
influence on the lives of her students, and she gave generously |
|
of her time and talent so that they would have the skills to |
|
thrive in today's competitive society; she believed in reading as |
|
a means to help experience life, and she instilled in her |
|
students a lifelong love of learning; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Trevino was committed to innovation and was a |
|
pioneer in the implementation of looping, a practice in which |
|
students remain with the same teacher over several years; under |
|
this system, her students' skills improved dramatically, |
|
reaching 100 percent mastery in reading; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Trevino also served on the Site Based |
|
Decision Making committee and was a presenter at the national |
|
Accelerated Schools Conference; in recognition of her many |
|
contributions to the district and to the cause of education, |
|
Norma Linda Trevino Elementary School was named in her honor; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Norma Linda Trevino Elementary School has |
|
embodied her dedication to excellence and represents a fitting |
|
testament to her legacy; the school's students have won numerous |
|
awards and it has been recognized as a Texas Education Agency |
|
Exemplary Campus and a Title One Distinguished Campus; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she |
|
continues to live in the hearts and minds of those she left |
|
behind; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
Legislature, hereby honor the life and achievements of the late |
|
Norma Linda Trevino and extend to her family sincere condolences |
|
on their loss; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
her family, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so |
|
in memory of Norma Linda Trevino. |
