SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 882
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Nick Jimenez, who retired on May 1, 2009, after 41 |
|
|
years of outstanding service to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times |
|
|
and the Corpus Christi community; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Jimenez began his journalism career as a |
|
|
reporting intern investigating abuses of power in South Texas; he |
|
|
has steadfastly maintained his dedication to the principle of |
|
|
journalism's role as watchdog, and he is retiring as the |
|
|
editorial page editor of the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, a |
|
|
position he has held since 1994; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Throughout his career as a journalist, Mr. |
|
|
Jimenez has been noted for his tenacity in pursuing stories; his |
|
|
probing questions and his equanimity in volatile situations made |
|
|
him a model journalist, and his contributions as a member of the |
|
|
editorial board were informed by his thorough knowledge of the |
|
|
community and its issues; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Talented and resourceful, Mr. Jimenez has handled |
|
|
his many responsibilities with exceptional fairness and |
|
|
impartiality, covering such disparate beats as City Hall, county |
|
|
government, and the courts with professionalism and dedication; |
|
|
as an editor, he strove to keep important issues in the spotlight |
|
|
to spark discussion in the community; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, An exemplary journalist, Mr. Jimenez is respected |
|
|
and admired by his colleagues, and his presence at the Corpus |
|
|
Christi Caller-Times will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Nick Jimenez on his many |
|
|
contributions to the Corpus Christi community and extend to him |
|
|
best wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
