SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 884
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Reverend David L. Everson, Sr., on the occasion of his
  10th anniversary as pastor of First Union Baptist Church in
  Galveston, which is being celebrated May 17, 2009; and
 
         WHEREAS, Over the last 10 years, Reverend Everson has
  ministered faithfully to the temporal and spiritual needs of
  countless people; and
 
         WHEREAS, Under Reverend Everson's inspirational guidance,
  First Union Baptist Church has provided enlightenment, hope, and
  support to the Galveston community; this dedicated minister has
  overseen the ordination of three ministers and three deacons,
  with more soon to follow in their path; and
 
         WHEREAS, Dedicated to helping others, Reverend Everson has
  led the way as First Union Baptist Church has undertaken to
  improve its facilities, repairing Hall's Chapel and the church
  parsonage and initiating renovations in the wake of Hurricane
  Ike; and
 
         WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and devotion, Reverend
  Everson has performed countless ceremonies and has prayed with
  and counseled his congregation in times of hardship and
  bereavement and rejoiced with them in times of prosperity and
  celebration; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby join the members of First Union Baptist
  Church in commending Reverend David L. Everson, Sr., on his
  decade of joyful service to his church and community; and, be it
  further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
