SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 886

Roy Cantu |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Roy Cantu, who died |
|
April 25, 2009, at the age of 58; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native Houstonian, Roy Cantu grew up in the East |
|
End and attended De Zavala Elementary School, Edison Junior High |
|
School, and San Jacinto High School; while at Edison, he was a |
|
member of the basketball team that won the city championship in |
|
the small boys division; and |
|
WHEREAS, He entered the United States Air Force in 1969 and |
|
served during the Vietnam War era; he then served in the military |
|
police at Ellington Field in 1970 and 1971 and was honorably |
|
discharged in September of 1975; he worked for the Southwestern |
|
Bell Corporation for 30 years before he retired; and |
|
WHEREAS, A man of honor, courage, and compassion, Roy Cantu |
|
served his country and his community proudly and earned the |
|
admiration and respect of all who knew him; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was a devoted father and grandfather, and he |
|
leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his |
|
family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Roy Cantu: his sons, Adam and Emanuel Cantu; his |
|
sisters, Mary Rojas, Linda Fields, Alice Cantu, and Olivia Cantu; |
|
his brothers, Daniel Cantu and Manuel Cantu, Jr.; and his |
|
grandchildren, Christopher, Kerrie, and Ava; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Roy Cantu. |
