SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 888

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Dr. Donald R. Butts, who has been selected as the Houston Surgical Society's Distinguished Houston Surgeon for 2009; and

WHEREAS, President of the Colon and Rectal Clinic since 1970, Dr. Butts has dedicated himself to the world of surgical medicine; a 1962 graduate of The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, he performed his internship, residency, and fellowship at Hermann Hospital in Houston; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Butts has received numerous honors and awards during his career, and he is active in professional associations; he has served as president of the Harris County Medical Society, the nation's largest medical society, and he is currently on the Texas Medical Liability Trust Board of Governors; and

WHEREAS, A supremely skilled surgeon, Dr. Butts represents the best of his profession, and he is truly deserving of this signal honor; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Donald R. Butts on his many contributions to the field of medicine and extend congratulations to him on being named the Houston Surgical Society's Distinguished Houston Surgeon for 2009; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
