WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Gertrude Tausch Haverlah on the grand occasion of her
  90th birthday; and
         WHEREAS, On June 7, 1919, Gertrude Tausch had the
  distinction of being born in the Wilson County jail in
  Floresville, Texas; her uncle was the sheriff, and his family
  lived on the bottom floor of the jail, where she was born; and
         WHEREAS, Her parents, Ellen Campbell Tausch and Walter
  Tausch, lived in Campbellton, in Atascosa County, and operated
  the Tausch Café and filling station along with their ranch;
  Gertrude Tausch helped with the business after school and on
  weekends and graduated with honors from Jourdanton High School;
         WHEREAS, Gertrude Tausch married Harry Haverlah in San
  Antonio on June 8, 1937, the day after she turned 18 years old;
  the couple returned to Campbellton and began married life,
  combining farming and ranching with raising five children; the
  family now includes 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren;
         WHEREAS, During the drought in South Texas in the 1950s,
  Mrs. Haverlah worked as the school cafeteria cook, and the couple
  operated the Tausch Café and filling station after the death of
  her father in 1953; when the drought ended in the late 1950s, they
  returned to ranching full-time; this was the life they both loved
  and continued for the rest of their lives; and
         WHEREAS, In 1987, Mr. and Mrs. Haverlah celebrated their
  50th wedding anniversary at the Campbellton Community Hall with
  family and friends; after Mr. Haverlah's death in 1991, Mrs.
  Haverlah continued to manage the ranch, and she continues to do
  so to this day; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Haverlah is a lifelong member of Sacred Heart
  Catholic Church; long active in her community, she still
  participates in senior citizen activities; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby commend Gertrude Tausch Haverlah and extend
  to her best wishes for a happy and memorable 90th birthday; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
