SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 894
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize George Tamayo, who is retiring on May 15, 2009, after
  more than three decades of outstanding service to the Office of
  the Comptroller of Public Accounts; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Tamayo began his career at the comptroller's
  office in the Revenue Processing Division working on tax returns;
  he has held a variety of positions in the Revenue Administration
  and Fiscal Management divisions, and he is currently responsible
  for administering the Texas Unclaimed Property Program; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Mr. Tamayo has been noted
  for his superior skills and expertise; he has served as president
  of the National Association of Unclaimed Property
  Administrators, which granted him its Presidential Distinguished
  Service Award; and
         WHEREAS, Talented and resourceful, Mr. Tamayo has
  implemented many innovative programs during his career; he
  proposed and developed the state's first comprehensive annual
  financial report that provided information on an accrual basis,
  which became a model for current practice, and he made Texas the
  first state to conduct unclaimed property auctions on eBay; and
         WHEREAS, An exemplary public servant, Mr. Tamayo is
  respected and admired by his colleagues, and his presence at the
  Office of the Comptroller of Public Accounts will be greatly
  missed; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby commend George Tamayo on his exceptional
  service to the Office of the Comptroller of Public Accounts and
  his many contributions to our state and extend to him best wishes
  for the retirement years ahead; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
