SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 898
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  William Hatchell
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas pays tribute to
  the life of longtime county commissioner and transportation
  engineer William "Jack" Hatchell, who died June 28, 2008; and
         WHEREAS, Jack Hatchell played a vital role in the
  development of the transportation system in North Central Texas;
  at the time of his death, he was serving his fifth consecutive
  term as county commissioner for Collin County; a graduate of
  Texas A&M University, he had earned bachelor's and master's
  degrees in civil engineering with specialization in traffic
  engineering and transportation planning and had served as an
  officer with the United States Army Transportation Corps; he had
  also served on the Plano City Council for 10 years; and
         WHEREAS, A visionary leader, Mr. Hatchell was widely
  recognized for both his knowledge about transportation and his
  ability to bring interests together to achieve what was best for
  the region; he was a member of the Regional Transportation
  Council of the North Central Texas Council of Governments for 17
  years, serving as chairman in 2004 and 2005, and he was a member
  of the Executive Board from 1999 to 2005, serving as president in
  2003 and 2004; and
         WHEREAS, He was honored with numerous awards, including
  the 2008 William J. Pitstick Regional Excellence Award, which he
  received from the North Central Texas Council of Governments for
  his outstanding public service career and his proactive
  leadership on transportation issues; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby honor the memory of William "Jack" Hatchell;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared to
  commemorate his life and legacy, and that when the Senate
  adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jack Hatchell.
