SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 904

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize A Su Salud on the occasion of its 20th anniversary, which is being celebrated throughout this year; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1989, A Su Salud began as a cancer prevention program that utilized positive messaging through community role models who demonstrated healthy behaviors; over the years, it became a general health program, and in 1999, its focus changed to injury prevention; and

WHEREAS, The program's primary mission is to reduce the injury-related deaths and disabilities of the people of South Texas through a combination of education, research, intervention programs, and public policy; it provides services to schools annually in an effort to educate families about important safety precautions that can be taken to reduce injuries; and

WHEREAS, A Su Salud is a program of the University Health System, a nationally recognized academic medical center and the leading Level I trauma center for 22 South Texas counties; throughout the 20th anniversary year, A Su Salud will honor experts, role models, and volunteers who have given their time to educate the community on safety and injury prevention and on various general health topics; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby pay tribute to A Su Salud for its valuable role in injury prevention for the people of South Texas and extend best wishes to all who participate in the program on the occasion of its 20th anniversary; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of A Su Salud.
