SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 911

WHEREAS, When they married many years ago, Philip Logan Stephenson and Chrystelle Stephenson placed great faith and trust in one another, and they have been amply rewarded as they recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Philip met Chrystelle in Denver, Colorado, her hometown, when he was completing an internship at the hospital where she was working as a registered nurse; they were married in Alva, Oklahoma, Philip's hometown, on May 2, 1959; and

WHEREAS, They lived in Oklahoma City, where Philip completed his surgery residency, and the couple had three of their children, Paul Gregory, Pamela Dee, and Barry David; their fourth child, Scott Edward, was born in Wichita Falls, where Philip joined a medical clinic in 1963; and

WHEREAS, Philip served in the United States Air Force for two years and afterward returned to the medical clinic; he opened a private practice in the 1970s, which he operated until he retired from surgery practice in 1997; he then served for several years as vice president and medical director for United Regional Health Care Center; and

WHEREAS, Chrystelle often worked alongside her husband as his surgical nurse; she was also a nurse at her children's school and took part in school and church activities; Philip served as the team doctor for his sons' high school football teams and served on the boards of directors for First Step and the YMCA; and

WHEREAS, Chrystelle and Philip have 21 grandchildren; affectionately called Mama Doc and Papa Doc, they enjoy visiting with family and friends and spending time in their mountain retreat in New Mexico and with their German Schnauzer dogs; Chrystelle enjoys quilting, volunteering, and scrapbooking, and Philip enjoys swimming, attending weekly Rotary Club meetings, and watching sports; and

WHEREAS, The world has changed considerably during the years of their marriage, yet Dr. and Mrs. Stephenson have cherished traditional family values; on May 2, 2009, their children and grandchildren arranged a surprise 50th wedding anniversary celebration for them in Wichita Falls; the long and happy union of this devoted couple is an inspiration to all who know them; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st Legislature, hereby congratulate Dr. and Mrs. Philip Logan Stephenson on their golden wedding anniversary and extend to them best wishes for the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this distinguished couple to commemorate this momentous occasion.
