SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 913
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Raymond De La Cruz
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Raymond De La Cruz, who
  died May 1, 2009, at the age of 60; and
         WHEREAS, Born and raised in Lampasas, Mr. De La Cruz
  overcame the lack of a formal education to become a highly
  successful businessman and entrepreneur; he drew on the
  knowledge he gained as a teenage apprentice to own several
  businesses devoted to electronics and television repair, and he
  also owned a restaurant and park concession business; and
         WHEREAS, As a young man, Mr. De La Cruz exhibited
  outstanding talent as a baseball player and was recruited to play
  for a farm team of the Houston Astros; he was an enthusiastic
  outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and he became an avid
  birdwatcher; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. De La Cruz moved to Austin in 1988 and opened
  East Austin TV and VCR, which became a gathering place for
  political events and fundraisers; he loved music and with his
  son, Randy, produced two music CDs; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
  gave generously to others, and his kindness, good humor, and
  enthusiasm for living life to the fullest will not be forgotten
  by those who knew him; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. De La Cruz was a devoted husband, father, and
  grandfather, and his family and many friends will continue to
  live with the cherished memories of his life and his many
  accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Raymond De La Cruz: his beloved wife, Elena Diaz De La
  Cruz; his children, Maggie Cano, Victoria Cano, and Randy De La
  Cruz; his brothers, Robert and Rey De La Cruz; his sister, Lori
  Rivera; and his granddaughters, Jessica and Chloe; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Raymond De La Cruz.
