SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 928
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Veva Ball Hasslocher
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Veva Ball
  Hasslocher, who died May 6, 2009, at the age of 85; and
 
         WHEREAS, Veva Hasslocher was born March 2, 1924, in
  Kentucky; she moved with her family to San Antonio during World
  War II; and
 
         WHEREAS, After the war, she met her future husband, Jim
  Hasslocher, while renting a bicycle at a shop behind his
  restaurant, the original Jim's Restaurant; together, they worked
  in partnership to build a successful chain of restaurants while
  raising their five children and providing for an extended family
  of Frontier Enterprise employees; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Hasslocher was a founding member of the San
  Antonio Restaurant Association Women's Auxiliary and served two
  terms as its president, and that organization honored her with
  its first Lifetime Achievement Award; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Hasslocher was known for the impressive
  outdoor decorative displays she created every holiday season at
  her home, and her capacity to maintain relationships through
  calling, writing, and encouraging others is a testament to her
  loyalty and kindness; and
 
         WHEREAS, A woman of courage, grace, and compassion, she
  gave generously to others, and her wisdom, dauntless spirit, and
  determination to live each day to the fullest will not be
  forgotten by those who knew her; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Hasslocher was a devoted wife, mother, and
  grandmother, and she leaves behind memories that will be
  cherished forever by her family and countless friends; now,
  therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Veva Ball Hasslocher: her husband, Jim Hasslocher; her
  children, Susan Hasslocher, Caryn Hasslocher and her husband
  Tony Koch, Bobby Hasslocher, Jimmy Hasslocher and his wife
  Tracie, and Julie Stirman; her sister, Carol; and her 14
  grandchildren and five great-grandsons; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Veva Ball Hasslocher.
