SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 936
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the Republic of Texas Independence Day Celebration
  Cook-off as a Texas State Barbecue Championship competition; and
 
         WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Republic of Texas Independence
  Celebration, Incorporated, the San Angelo Civic Events
  Department, and the Tom Green County Historical Commission
  Concho Valley Chapter, the 2nd Annual Republic of Texas
  Independence Day Celebration was held April 17 through 19, 2009;
  organizers and citizens alike look forward to the 3rd annual
  celebration, which will be held March 5 and 6, 2010; and
 
         WHEREAS, This impressive celebration includes a music
  festival, a car show, a motorcycle rally, vendors of all kinds,
  and educational seminars about Texas history in addition to the
  official barbecue competition, which is sanctioned by the
  International Barbecue Cookers Association; and
 
         WHEREAS, This outstanding event drew more than 11,500
  visitors to San Angelo and had the ninth-largest economic impact
  on the city of any event; and
 
         WHEREAS, Texans are noted for their love of barbecue, and
  the cooks at this exemplary celebration have provided superior
  cuisine that satisfies the most discriminating of palates; now,
  therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby commend the sponsors and organizers of the
  annual Republic of Texas Independence Day Celebration Cook-off
  on their dedication and hard work and extend to them best wishes
  for a successful event; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  them as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
