SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 956
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Dr. Pascal D. Forgione, Jr., who is retiring on June
  30, 2009, after a decade of outstanding service as superintendent
  of the Austin Independent School District; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Forgione has had a significant positive
  impact on the Austin Independent School District; under his
  outstanding leadership, the district has resolved several issues
  of concern and gained the confidence of the public; and
         WHEREAS, During Dr. Forgione's tenure, the district has
  improved student achievement, narrowed achievement gaps between
  student groups, and expanded educational offerings; records
  management and business practices were modernized, and the
  curriculum was brought into line with state standards; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Forgione played an important role in
  shepherding three bond issues to passage, which enabled the
  district to build new schools and renovate existing campuses; the
  district has also become fiscally secure, earning seven
  consecutive ratings of superior achievement from the Financial
  Rating System of Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Forgione has won several awards for his
  outstanding stewardship of the district, including Austinite of
  the Year for 2009 from the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce and
  the Richard R. Green Award as the nation's top urban
  superintendent; and
         WHEREAS, An exemplary educator and administrator, Dr.
  Forgione is respected and admired by his colleagues, and his
  presence at the Austin Independent School District will be
  greatly missed; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Pascal D. Forgione, Jr., on his
  outstanding service to the Austin Independent School District
  and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his
  future endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
