SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 959
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the Houston Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of
  America on the grand occasion of its 40th anniversary celebration
  and salute to gospel music legends of Houston; and
 
         WHEREAS, The formal gala is taking place in the Hyatt
  Regency Hotel in Houston on July 13, 2009, and includes a
  reception, dinner, gospel music entertainment, and an awards
  ceremony; and
 
         WHEREAS, The Houston Chapter is a division of the Gospel
  Music Workshop of America, Incorporated, founded in 1967 by the
  late Reverend James Cleveland; the organization's mission is to
  spread the art of gospel music and promote its formal study; and
 
         WHEREAS, The Houston Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop
  of America and the nonprofit Center for Social and Economic
  Empowerment are sponsoring the event, whose proceeds will
  benefit the GMWA Houston Chapter Scholarship Fund and finance a
  40th year commemorative recording; and
 
         WHEREAS, For four decades, the Houston Chapter of the
  Gospel Music Workshop of America has preserved and nurtured
  gospel music; its membership includes many phenomenally gifted
  individuals who are legendary for their exceptional talent and
  their significant contributions to the gospel music industry;
  now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby congratulate members of the Houston Chapter
  of the Gospel Music Workshop of America on its 40th anniversary
  and extend best wishes to all for a splendid celebration; and, be
  it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a
  memento of the special occasion.
