Arnold Vera, Jr. |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
|
commemorates the life of Arnold Vera, Jr., who died May 16, 2009; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Arnold Vera was born in Rio Grande City to Arnoldo |
|
|
Vera, Sr., and Petra Gonzalez; he graduated from Rio Grande City |
|
|
High School, where he lettered in basketball and track; he |
|
|
attended Pan American University in Edinburg and managed to |
|
|
capture a spot on the basketball team as a walk-on; it was there |
|
|
that he was given the nickname "Pizza"; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He worked for a time as a coach at Central Texas |
|
|
College in Killeen and had a full and successful career that |
|
|
included working for the cities of Mission and Edinburg as a |
|
|
public works director; he more recently had been involved with |
|
|
construction and development; diligent and conscientious, he |
|
|
took great pride in his work; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Arnold was known for his great love for his |
|
|
family; he especially cherished the women in his life: his |
|
|
devoted wife of 22 years, Yoli, with whom he enjoyed traveling |
|
|
and seeing the world; his daughters, Ashley Nicole and Vanessa |
|
|
Renee; his mother, Petra Gonzalez Vera; and his sisters, Yolanda |
|
|
Ford and Hortensia Pena; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, he was an active member of |
|
|
Sacred Heart Catholic Church as well as First Baptist Church in |
|
|
Edinburg; he was a kind and gentle man known for his unassuming |
|
|
nature, his generosity, and his devotion to his family, and he |
|
|
leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by all who |
|
|
knew him; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
|
Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Arnold Vera, Jr., |
|
|
and extend sincere condolences to his bereaved family; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
|
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
|
memory of Arnold Vera, Jr. |
