SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 983
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the Reverend John A. Heath, who has been named as one of
  Houston's "Top 40 Under 40" by the Houston Business Journal; and
         WHEREAS, Reverend Heath currently serves as executive
  director of the Youth Development Center, one of Houston's
  premier literacy-based academic and youth intervention
  organizations; he is president and chief executive officer of
  J.A.H. International Ministries; and
         WHEREAS, Reverend Heath has a wealth of valuable
  experience in public service on both the state and federal
  levels; he served as executive director of the Community Services
  Administration for the State of Maryland and as senior advisor to
  Maryland governor Robert Ehrlich and Maryland lieutenant
  governor Michael Steele; and
         WHEREAS, Reverend Heath has also served on the staff of the
  chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, Congressman Elijah
  Cummings; he has also served on numerous boards and commissions,
  including the National Association for the Advancement of
  Colored People and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference;
  and
         WHEREAS, A tireless advocate for the homeless and working
  poor, Reverend Heath has risen from his own days of homelessness
  to become a leader and a voice for the dispossessed and less
  fortunate; he is truly deserving of recognition for his
  dedication to improving the lives of others; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby commend the Reverend John A. Heath on his
  many contributions to the Houston community and extend
  congratulations to him on being named one of Houston's "Top 40
  Under 40"; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
