SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 984
         WHEREAS, Joe Hidrogo has become an important role model and
  mentor to youth on the south side of Fort Worth through his work
  with Round 1 Boxing Gym; and
         WHEREAS, Founded by Mr. Hidrogo and others in 2005, this
  gym offered training in boxing and martial arts to people of all
  ages who learned discipline and mutual respect through
  participation in the gym's activities; and
         WHEREAS, Round 1 Boxing soon became an important center for
  the community; when some younger members were unable to afford
  the gym's monthly fee, Mr. Hidrogo waived the fee or local
  businesses paid for them, and several teachers volunteered to tutor
  students at the gym who needed help with their schoolwork; and
         WHEREAS, In 2007, Round 1 Boxing officially reorganized as
  a nonprofit organization; it works in partnership with the Fort
  Worth Independent School District in an after-school program,
  helping students learn the values of respect and hard work
  through physical training; and
         WHEREAS, Since May of 2008, Round 1 Boxing has been without
  a permanent home, but Mr. Hidrogo has continued to train young
  people at his own home while fund-raising for a new facility; and
         WHEREAS, Through his establishment of Round 1 Boxing Gym,
  Joe Hidrogo has provided an important community service that has
  greatly benefited the youth of Fort Worth's south side, and this
  outstanding Texan's generosity and commitment to others make him
  truly worthy of recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby commend Joe Hidrogo for his establishment of
  Round 1 Boxing Gym and extend to him sincere best wishes for the
  future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  Mr. Hidrogo as an expression of high regard from the Texas
  Senate.
