SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 995
WHEREAS, The efficiency and integrity of the nation's 9-1-1
emergency response systems are dependent on widespread public
awareness of proper emergency reporting procedures; and

WHEREAS, Of the hundreds of thousands of calls received by
9-1-1 centers across the country yearly, many are from young
children who are either unable to convey necessary information to
operators or who fail to understand the serious consequences of
an unwarranted emergency call, and it was with the goal of
educating children in these important issues that the 9-1-1 for
Kids program was first inaugurated in 1994; and

WHEREAS, By bringing accessible and understandable
information about emergency services to young children, 9-1-1
for Kids ensures that participants in the project will know both
how to report an emergency and when making such a call is
  appropriate; and

WHEREAS, In presenting this essential knowledge to
children, 9-1-1 for Kids is helping to enhance the safety and
security of all Texans, and 9-1-1 for Kids Education Week will
further help to advance this worthwhile goal; now, therefore, be
  it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
Legislature, hereby recognize June 7-13, 2009, as 9-1-1 for Kids
Education Week and commend all those associated with this
  important program.
