SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1037
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Dr. Julia De Foor Jay, who has been named a Piper
  Professor of 2009; and
 
         WHEREAS, Dr. De Foor Jay was selected for the title of
  Piper Professor by the board of directors of the Minnie Stevens
  Piper Foundation; the award honors professors in Texas colleges
  and universities for outstanding scholarly and academic
  achievement and for excellence in the teaching profession; and
 
         WHEREAS, Dr. De Foor Jay is a professor of English at the
  San Jacinto College Central Campus; she was nominated for the
  award by the president of San Jacinto College; and
 
         WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Dr. De Foor Jay taught for
  two decades at Pasadena High School before joining the faculty of
  San Jacinto College; and
 
         WHEREAS, An exemplary professor, Dr. De Foor Jay has
  consistently set high standards and has aspired to excellence
  throughout her years of teaching, and she has enriched the lives
  of countless students through her dedication and skill; now,
  therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Julia De Foor Jay on her
  exceptional service in the field of education and extend
  congratulations to her on earning the title of Piper Professor of
  2009; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in her
  honor as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
