SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1041
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Cynthia Reyna, who received the Hispanic Heritage
  Foundation's 2008 Youth Award for Engineering and Mathematics;
  and
         WHEREAS, Cynthia graduated with a 3.96 grade point average
  from Charles H. Milby High School in Houston, where she was
  president of the National Honor Society and secretary of the
  English Honor Society; and
         WHEREAS, She is an advanced placement scholar with honors,
  a high honor roll student, a two-time first place science fair
  winner, and a second place winner of the Science Bowl
  competition; she received a pre-engineering scholarship from the
  United Space Alliance and the Society of Mexican American
  Engineers and Scientists, a Phi Beta Kappa scholarship, and a
  Jesse H. Jones Scholarship; and
         WHEREAS, In 2007, Cynthia participated in a summer
  internship program at the Baylor College of Medicine and
  conducted scientific research on cisplatin-induced toxicities;
  she also served as an intern for the Institute of Orthopedic
  Research at the Methodist Center; and
         WHEREAS, She is active in her community and helps residents
  complete paperwork at United States citizenship workshops, and
  she has volunteered numerous hours in the technology department
  of the Raul Yzaguirre School for Success; and
         WHEREAS, One of Cynthia's career goals is to design
  structures that are more resilient and can withstand natural
  disasters and long-term use; she plans to major in civil
  engineering at Texas A&M University; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby congratulate Cynthia Reyna on her many
  achievements and extend to her best wishes for continued success
  in all her future endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
