SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1041
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Cynthia Reyna, who received the Hispanic Heritage |
|
|
Foundation's 2008 Youth Award for Engineering and Mathematics; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Cynthia graduated with a 3.96 grade point average |
|
|
from Charles H. Milby High School in Houston, where she was |
|
|
president of the National Honor Society and secretary of the |
|
|
English Honor Society; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, She is an advanced placement scholar with honors, |
|
|
a high honor roll student, a two-time first place science fair |
|
|
winner, and a second place winner of the Science Bowl |
|
|
competition; she received a pre-engineering scholarship from the |
|
|
United Space Alliance and the Society of Mexican American |
|
|
Engineers and Scientists, a Phi Beta Kappa scholarship, and a |
|
|
Jesse H. Jones Scholarship; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In 2007, Cynthia participated in a summer |
|
|
internship program at the Baylor College of Medicine and |
|
|
conducted scientific research on cisplatin-induced toxicities; |
|
|
she also served as an intern for the Institute of Orthopedic |
|
|
Research at the Methodist Center; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, She is active in her community and helps residents |
|
|
complete paperwork at United States citizenship workshops, and |
|
|
she has volunteered numerous hours in the technology department |
|
|
of the Raul Yzaguirre School for Success; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, One of Cynthia's career goals is to design |
|
|
structures that are more resilient and can withstand natural |
|
|
disasters and long-term use; she plans to major in civil |
|
|
engineering at Texas A&M University; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st |
|
|
Legislature, hereby congratulate Cynthia Reyna on her many |
|
|
achievements and extend to her best wishes for continued success |
|
|
in all her future endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
