SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1047
         WHEREAS, When they married, Mary L. Ramirez and Jose D.
  Ramirez made a lifetime commitment to each other, and their
  mutual trust has been amply rewarded, for they are now
  celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary; and
         WHEREAS, Mary and Jose Ramirez met in 1953 during their
  college years, and they married on May 31, 1959; they have one
  son, Eddie Ramirez, and have been blessed with a long and happy
  life together; and
         WHEREAS, Mary Ramirez served in the field of education for
  42 years and retired in 1997; she had a highly successful career
  that included teaching grades one through 12, supervising the
  bilingual education program in the Edinburg Consolidated
  Independent School District, and serving as a professional
  counselor at the high school level; she was selected for
  inclusion in Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 1996; and
         WHEREAS, Jose Ramirez also had a successful career in the
  field of education, which included serving as an elementary
  school principal and as a school counselor and teaching general
  science, social studies, language arts, and remedial
  mathematics; he evaluated education systems and revised
  curriculum for courses in science; and
         WHEREAS, Mary and Jose are both members of the United
  States of America Council of Serra International Club, which
  provides assistance to seminarians, and of the Order of Alhambra,
  which assists young people who have disabilities; and
         WHEREAS, The world has changed considerably during the
  years of their marriage, yet Mr. and Mrs. Ramirez have cherished
  traditional family and moral values and have been leaders in the
  field of education and in their community; and
         WHEREAS, The long and happy union of Mr. and Mrs. Ramirez
  is truly an inspiration to us all; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Jose
  Ramirez on their 50th wedding anniversary; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  this distinguished couple as a memento of this special occasion.
