SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1067
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  James Howard Nelson
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of James Howard "Jim" Nelson, who died
  May 16, 2008, at the age of 78; and
 
         WHEREAS, James Howard Nelson was born October 1, 1929, in
  Central Texas; he grew up in Weslaco, where his family was
  involved in farming and ranching for several decades; he was a
  1952 graduate of Texas A&I University in Kingsville and worked in
  the aerospace industry his entire career; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mr. Nelson was noted for his steadfast support of
  the Republican Party in Dallas and Denton County; he served as a
  patriarch of the party for many years, helping to establish the
  party as a formidable power in that area; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mr. Nelson was the recipient of the Denton County
  Republican Party's first volunteer of the year award in the early
  1980s for his invaluable contributions and service to the party;
  and
 
         WHEREAS, Mr. Nelson was an exemplar of the American dream;
  a child of the Great Depression, he learned the value of hard work
  and became an entrepreneur in his field, founding Mayday
  Manufacturing in 1966, which went on to become a mainstay in the
  aerospace component industry and today, with its affiliates,
  employs 250 workers on a 35-acre campus in Denton; and
 
         WHEREAS, Active in civic and philanthropic affairs, Mr.
  Nelson was a tireless supporter of the arts; the arts
  organizations of the greater Lewisville area owe much of their
  success to his and his family's generous patronage and support
  through the years; and
 
         WHEREAS, A man of intellect, wit, and charm, Mr. Nelson was
  admired by people from all walks of life, and his wisdom, warmth,
  and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him;
  and
 
         WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
  and his family and many friends will continue to cherish the
  memories of his life and his many achievements; now, therefore,
  be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of James Howard Nelson; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Jim Nelson.
