FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB115 by Pickett (Relating to the authority of a county tax assessor-collector to commission certain employees as peace officers.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Tax Code to authorize a county tax assessor-collector to commission as a peace officer employees of the assessor-collector's office who meet certain criteria, including having to be certified by the Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. It is assumed that if a county tax assessor-collector office has an enforcement division that is sanctioned by the county commissioners court and the tax assessor-collector were to decide to commission peace officers as part of the staff, they would do so only if the necessary resources were available in the budget.
