LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 22, 2009

TO:
Honorable Tommy Merritt, Chair, House Committee on Public Safety

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB175 by King, Susan (Relating to continuing education and training for peace officers relating to the investigation and prevention of drive-by shootings.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Occupations Code, Section 1701 to establish a requirement for peace officer training related to the investigation and prevention of drive by shootings.  The bill would also require the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) to develop the training and education program required by the bill and administer the training or certify other entities to administer the training.  The bill would take effect September 1, 2009.

This analysis assumes all costs associated with the bill can be absorbed within TCLEOSE’s current appropriations.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
