Honorable Rob Eissler, Chair, House Committee on Public Education
FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB200 by Heflin (Relating to continuing education requirements for public school principals.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would repeal Section 21.054(b), Education Code for certain continuing education requirements for public school principals and would no longer require principals to participate in the assessment process and professional growth activities every five years. The provisions of the bill apply beginning with the 2009-2010 school year and take effect immediately with the necessary voting margins, otherwise the bill takes effect on September 1, 2009.
Local Government Impact
School districts may experience some administrative savings if continuing education requirements for public school principals are no longer required. Savings would vary by school district depending upon local circumstances.
