LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 24, 2009

TO:
Honorable Todd Smith, Chair, House Committee on Elections

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB247 by Alonzo (Relating to allowing certain early voting polling places to serve as election day polling places.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Election Code to authorize local government authorities conducting an election, to establish on election day an additional polling place at the location of the main early voting polling place. The Secretary of State would be required to adopt rules to implement the provisions of the bill.

Based on analysis by the Secretary of State's office, it is anticipated that implementation could be achieved within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

It is assumed that an authority conducting an election would establish an additional polling place only if doing so could be absorbed within the existing budget. No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
