IN RE:
HB319 by Raymond (Relating to an exemption from jury service for certain persons with legal custody of a child.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code relating to an exemption from jury service for certain persons with legal custody of a child.  The bill would allow a person qualified to serve as a petit juror to be exempted from jury service if the person has legal custody of a child younger than 15 years of age, while current law provides a child be younger than 10 years of age.  To the extent the bill would modify judicial proceedings, no significant increase in judicial workloads or fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would take effect September 1, 2009.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. The bill would allow a person qualified to serve as a petit juror to be exempted from jury service if the person has legal custody of a child younger than 15 years of age. Local governments may incur some costs associated with reprinting jury summons and questionnaires, but those costs are not anticipated to be significant.
