LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 3, 2009

TO:
Honorable Todd Hunter, Chair, House Committee on Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB446 by Villarreal (Relating to the enforcement of unpaid child support.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would permit a court to decide how much a child support obligor owes in past-due child support, regardless of the date the child support became due or when the child support obligation ended, until all arrearages are paid. The Office of the Attorney General would pursue enforcement actions against those child support obligors. It is assumed that any additional costs associated with implementation of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
