IN RE:
HB503 by Geren (Relating to adoption of the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would include Texas in the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children in order to mitigate the logistical challenges of frequent relocations such as records transfer, grade and course placement, and differences in graduation requirements among the states.  The bill would require the Governor to appoint a Compact Commissioner to administer the state's involvement and attend meetings of the national organization to which the state would also be required to provide financial support for operational expenses.  The bill would require the establishment of the Texas State Council on Educational Opportunity for Military Children.  Members of the Council would be entitled to reimbursement for expenses related to meeting attendance.

No significant fiscal impact is anticipated.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
