No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Civil Practice and Remedies Code relating to recovery of loss of consortium damages by a parent for injury to a child as a result of certain crimes against the child. To the extent the bill creates a new cause of action, no significant increase in judicial workloads or fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would take effect September 1, 2009.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. The bill would create a cause of action for a parent for loss of consortium of a child in connection with certain crimes against children. The number of cases could increase slightly; however, the costs associated are not anticipated to be significant.
