IN RE: | HB568 by Miller, Sid (Relating to the slaughter and processing of livestock for use by certain child-care facilities.), As Introduced |
The bill would grant an exemption for a child-care facility that owns, raises, or participates in the raising of livestock from inspection of slaughtered animals used for food by the Department of State Health Services.
If the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) determines that this exemption makes the Texas meat program not equal to the USDA program, then the state could lose federal funding (totaling $4.5 million per year) associated with meat inspection.
